Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker are among the celebs flaunting cascading locks. Stylist Ted Gibson offers tips on how to live large.

JUST when you thought all ’80s fashion revivals had run their course, big hair is back.

You only have to look at Angelina Jolie on the cover of this month’s Vanity Fair and Sarah Jessica Parker in the “Sex and the City” movie poster to see that the chic set is turning up the volume. We’re not talking the teased, sprayed locks of the Bangles, Bananarama and Dolly Parton. The modern version of big hair crosses the soft pouf of Krystle Carrington’s “Dynasty” coif with the cascading fullness of a Victoria’s Secret model’s waves — sexy, but with a touch of Aqua Net nostalgia. Tease too much and you’ll end up looking as if you stuck your finger in a light socket, but master the technique and treat your tresses with the right product, and you’ll look like a Sophia Loren sex kitten.

The man who gives Jolie, Anne Hathaway and the Victoria’s Secret models their big, beautiful hair is celebrity stylist Ted Gibson. Last week, he took a few moments at his New York salon to show us how to go over-the-top sexpot or just add a little Giselle to your summer look. His step-by-step process is less complicated than it may seem, but it requires a few key products: a blow-dryer, some hair spray — and remember hot rollers?

Not for shrinking violets

Big hair may be back on the radar this summer, but Gibson says the look is always in style — sans the ’80s stickiness, of course. “This kind of hair takes a certain attitude, a lot of personality,” he says. “It’s really about having the confidence.”

Pump it up

To get fullness, start at the root. First, cleanly divide your hair into five even sections (hair can start wet or dry). Then apply a volumizing product to the scalp where each section is divided. Gibson favors his own product, called Build It. “It’s about building volume without the weight.”

Next, apply a light, controlling gel all over the hair. Gibson uses two or three pumps of Aveda’s Phomollient styling foam, then combs through the hair with his trusty Mason Pearson brush. “Brushing the hair after applying these products will help distribute the product evenly.” Blow-dry the hair until it’s about 80% dry and then finish by pulling the ends under using a round brush. “This helps get volume from the scalp.” He uses a medium-size round barrel brush on Jolie, Hathaway and anyone with hair that hits from the chin to the clavicle. For shorter hair, use a small barrel.

Roller baby

Once the hair is completely dry, it’s time for the hot rollers, which should be really hot. Wrap 2-inch sections of hair around each roller until you look like a ’50s housewife. Leave rollers in for 10 to 15 minutes, or until they are completely cool. After taking the rollers out, the curls should be more like waves than ringlets. Then spritz a light hair spray all over the head. It should be a “working” hair spray, which means one that doesn’t get sticky or stiff, allowing you to keep working and building volume. Gibson recommends his Beautiful Hold hair spray.

Be a tease

Throw your head over and brush out. “Again, you want volume from the scalp,” Gibson says. “Make sure you do some back brushing. Just tease the hair a little at the crown, smooth down the top, and spray again. If you’re concerned about fly-aways because of humidity, use a shine serum after brushing.”

Big hair forever

The look works for all ages, Gibson says. “Just look at the model Carmen del Orifice. She’s been wearing her hair big forever. Now in her 70s, she still does, and she’s completely gray! But I’m from Texas, so this all makes sense.”

Agyness Deyn’s short cropped hair is the defining hairstyle of the decade, according to Vogue.

This peroxide crop hair has become so popular it’s been called The Aggy. It is the must-have hair style for fashion devotees this summer.

Hairdressers across the country have reported a spike in demand for The Aggy.

Agyness Deyn, the 25-year-old supermodel, has inspired a new trend in celebrities copying her cut.

The stars that replicated the look include Mena Suvari, Kimberly Stewart, Sarah Harding, Selma Blair and Pixie Geldof.

“Not since the popularity of ‘The Rachel’, sported by Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green in Friends throughout the Nineties, has a hairstyle been such a must-try,” says Vogue.

The Aggy was created by celebrity stylist Sam McKnight two years ago. He said it’s a classic rebel haircut.

There can be many variations.

A heavier fringe, croppier, smoother, sophisticated – it can suit all shapes of face and remain unique, McKnight told the Daily Mail.

Victoria Beckham Haircut by Celebrity Styles
Victoria Beckham new hair is in style. Right now she is wearing her do short and pulled back to create a sexy and sassy look. Her hair is blonde, almost whitest to fit the tone of her skin. Victoria Beckham new hair seems to look very good on her. She has a smaller face, which seems to attract that short cut. The hair is short in the back, and on one side she has a lengthy cut that streams down. It is a bob like hair cut that seems to be appealing to those who have a face shape like Victoria’s.

Victoria wore extensions at one time, which she cut them out. Victoria use to be brunette, but now has gone blonde to achieve that summer look. Victoria Beckham new hair makes up the tapered bob. Some people are giving negative reviews on Victoria’s hair, but others are enjoying the chic, funky style known as the angular bob. The hair cut not only fits her tone, but also the shape of her face and body. To some though it is that tomboy look and the change seems unappealing to some, but others seem to take delight in trying out the new Victoria Beckham new hair.

Here is an interesting posting from Celebrity Styles
Gwen Stefani is a woman who has a different hairstyle every time she is in the public eye. Gwen has a very unique fashion style and her hair styles reflect that well. Gwen former singer of No Doubt and now out on her own and married to super hot singer Gavin Rossdale of Bush, always has something up her sleeve when it come to her hairstyles. Gwen has been well known for a while for having a Marilyn Monroe hairstyle, platinum blonde in color and short and flirty. Gwen has experimented with hairstyles from the 50’s short and having tight curls, she has also gone with a long, sleek, straight style having straight cut bangs. Gwen has also gone with large flowing curls too.

Don’t think that everything that you see if real either, sometimes Gwen Stefani adds hair extensions to make her hairstyles more varied. You too can have one of Gwen’s many looks, just look at styles that she has had in the past, or present and use your imagination to come up with your own unique Gwen Stefani hairstyle. Take pictures to your hairstylist and have her transform your hair into something unique that you came up with using Gwen as inspiration.

Geri Halliwell once had a number one hit with Lift Me Up and it appears the wind was trying to do just that on a shopping trip in west London yesterday.

The Spice Girl, 35, experienced a ‘hairstyle malfunction’ when a gust of wind sent her hair sky-high on a day out with her daughter Bluebell and mother Ana.

Despite her Ginger Spice nickname, the darkened roots of Geri’s dyed blonde hair were on full display as the weather gave the singer a momentarily bad hair day.

Hair-raising: A gust of wind sends Geri Halliwell’s hair reaching for the heavens as she leaves Ikea in west London

Geri wasn’t the only one who fell victim to the wind’s style-destroying power – her mother Ana’s short cut was shaped into a cockatoo-style as a gust whipped through the car park.

If you’ve got long, lustrous hair, why not show it off? All you need is a curling iron and a little–emphasis on little–hairspray to create loose, natural-looking waves. Another look that only improves as the evening wears on and your hair relaxes.

Ponytail

Anne Hathaway

Miley Cyrus

Ponytails are a great youthful look, and both these young actresses pull it off. The key here, again, is softness. Don’t just pull your hair back in a scrunchy. Go for loose waves to frame your face.

In everything, goodness is there.

Our goal is to find it. In every person, the best is there, our job is to recognise it. In every situation, the positive is there, our opportunity is to see it.

In every problem, the solution is there, our responsibility is to provide it. In every setback, the success is there, our adventure is to discover it. In every crisis, the reason is there, our challenge is to understand it.

By seeing the goodness, we’ll be very enthusiastic and our lives will be all the richer.

Live Purposefully

If you don’t live life on purpose you live life by accident.

Why do some days feel like a motorway pile up? It’s because you haven’t sorted out your purpose yet.

The highest purpose is always giving, or serving others, without wanting anything in return.

This is why relaxation is always impossible if we are always ‘on the take’. There is an overall purpose for your life, and each of the many scenes which fill your day are opportunities to serve your purpose.

Take time to think deeply, listen to your intuition, and with patience, the reason why you are here, and what you uniquely have to give, will occur to you.

Then you can live your life ‘on purpose’.

The 9 Health Benefits of this Wonder Fruit, and How  to Eat Them

For centuries, pomegranates have been regarded as a treasure among fruits.

In ancient times, the Babylonians would chew the seeds before battle, believing it would make them invincible. *And the ancient Egyptians were buried with pomegranates.
In modern times, the pomegranate is a popular addition to Middle Eastern,Indian and Iranian cuisines. In the United States , this “jewel of winter”as it’s sometimes *referred to has become widely marketed as a powerful health juice in the last couple of years.

Only the seeds of this heart-healthy fruit are edible.

And increasing numbers of studies are confirming what it appears many cultures have known for some time: Pomegranates are indeed a wonder fruit.

If you don’t regularly eat pomegranates or drink their juice, here are nine reasons why you may want to start.

1.Rich in Disease-Fighting Antioxidants
Pomegranate juice may contain close to three times the antioxidants as green tea or red wine.
Antioxidants fight against free radicals –unstable molecules that can damage DNA and cell membranes. This cellular damage has been linked to all kinds of diseases including
cancer.

2. Protect Your Heart
A study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found that pomegranate juice combats hardening of the arteries and related diseases like heart attacks and strokes. It seems to limit the genetic tendency toward hardening of the
arteries.
“The protective effects of pomegranate juice were higher than previously assumed,” said Claudio Napoli, the study’s author and a professor of medicine and clinical pathology at the University of Naples, Italy.

Another study in the September 16 issue of the Journal of Cardiology found that after patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) drank pomegranate juice every day for three months:
*Blood flow to the heart improved by about 17 percent in the pomegranate group. Blood flow declined by 18 percent in the placebo “group”

In conclusion, daily consumption of pomegranate juice may improve stress- induced myocardial ischemia in patients who have CHD,”researchers said.

3. Fight Osteoarthritis

Pomegranate extract may be useful in fighting osteoarthritis, according to a study at Case Western Reserve University , published in The Journal of Nutrition. In lab tests, the extract:
*Cut levels of an inflammatory chemical called interleukin- 1b(IL-1b).
Stopped enzymes that erode cartilage.
*Researchers said their findings “indicate the pomegranate fruit extract or compounds derived from it may inhibit cartilage degradation in osteoarthritis and may also be a useful nutritive supplement for
maintaining joint integrity and function.”

4. Keep Prostate Cancer From Returning

A study found that pomegranate juice may help fight the return of prostate cancer among men who have had surgery or radiation for the disease. In fact, among 48 such men who drank 8 ounces of pomegranate juice each day until their prostate cancer progressed:
*· The juice significantly lengthened the time it took for the men’s average PSA levels (a gauge of prostate cancer progression) to double.

*· None of the men developed cancer that spread beyond the prostate during the study.

*It’s been suggested that the apple in the biblical Garden of Eden was actually a pomegranate.

*”Pomegranate juice contains antioxidant chemicals that may have cancer-preventing benefits,” the researchers said.

5. Help Lower Bad Cholesterol
*Antioxidants in pomegranates have been found to reduce the oxidation of LDL(bad) cholesterol in mice, according to a study in the American Journal of*Clinical Nutrition.

6. Lower Blood Pressure
*A study also found that pomegranates help lower blood pressure among people with hypertension.

7. Get Your Nutrients

One pomegranate has about 40 percent of the recommended daily vitamin C requirement for adults, along with folic acid, fiber, potassium, niacin and vitamins A and E.

8. Protection for Newborns
*A study published in Pediatric Research found that drinking pomegranate juice during pregnancy helped protect newborns’ brains during traumatic births.

9. Fight Breast Cancer
*Israeli researchers found that pomegranate seed oil causes breast cancer cells to self-destruct, while leaving healthy cells unharmed.

How to Eat (and Enjoy) a Pomegranate
*Eating a pomegranate takes some work because the edible seeds are encased in an inedible white membrane. The seeds are the part you want to eat–they have a tangy, sweet-sour flavor — or use to make juice, jellies and marinades. Here’s the best way to get to them:

*· Slice the crown end of the pomegranate off.
*· Score the rind in several places around the fruit (from top to bottom).
*· Break (or cut) the sections apart.
*· Put the sections in a bowl of water.
*· Pry the seeds out with your fingers (be careful, the juice will stain   clothes permanently).
*· Strain the seeds using a colander.
*· The seeds can be eaten right away, stored in the refrigerator or even frozen.

The old Master instructed the unhappy young man to put a handful of salt in a glass of water and then to drink it.

“How does it taste?” the Master asked.

“Awful,” spat the apprentice.

The Master chuckled and then asked the young man to take another handful of salt and put it in the lake.

The two walked in silence to the nearby lake and when the apprentice
swirled his handful of salt into the lake, the old man said, “Now drink from the lake.”

As the water dripped down the young man’s chin, the Master asked, “How
does it taste?”

“Good!” remarked the apprentice.

“Do you taste the salt?” asked the Master.

“No,” said the young man.

The Master sat beside this troubled young man, took his hands, and said, “The pain of life is pure salt; no more, no less. The amount of pain in life remains the same, exactly the same. But the amount we taste the ‘pain’ depends on the container we put it into.

“So when you are in pain, the only thing you can do is to enlarge your
sense of things ….. Stop being a glass. Become a lake!”
